English/Polish text. National Museum of Gdansk exhibition catalog of highly important early 16th to mid-18th century Turkish rugs from the Brukenthal Museum, Sibiu (Hermannstadt). The author calls it 'the first time since Budapest 1914 that all the best examples from the leading museum in Transylvania will again be on display: Holbein, Lotto, white-ground Ushaks and a wealth of Transylvanian rugs'. Of the illustrations 30 are of churches, and 61 are of rugs including a Cintimani fake by Tuduc. Most of the rugs have been previously published by the author. This book is a tribute to the beauty of the Anatolian rugs in the Brukenthal Museum and of the Churches in Transylvania where they survived. These are best photos ever published about this treasure with an introduction by Stefano Ionescu and an essay about the history of the carpet collection of the Brukenthal Museum by Dr. Alexandru Sonoc. Includes detailed notes and a new theory of the design origins of the 'Transylvanian' group" -Publisher
