Chrysanthemum Stone (Flower rock) - Location: China. The Chrysanthemum Stone of China occurs in the Qixia Formation of the Lower Permian. These specimens were collected in rocks from riverbeds. The flowers are embedded in dark gray limestone; the petal is Celestite and Calcite the stamen and pistol is formed by Chert. Normal diameter of the flowers ranges from 4 to 8 cm with a maximum of about 50 cm (very rare). The flowers are varied in shape. The Chrysanthemum Stone contains more than 10 kinds of trace elements including selenium strontium gold silver and bismuth. The Chrysanthemum Stone was used as the central decoration in carved plum orchid and bamboo screens that were awarded the gold medal at the Panama International Exposition in 1915. The exact origin of Chrysanthemum Stone is still unknown.
