An original Civil War letter from Confederate Private Armistead Christian at Camp of the 3rd Virginia Cavalry, March 20, 1865 to a "Mit" a friend or family member thanking him for his letter, reports brother Edwin (Edwin Warren Christian, also 3rd Va Cavalry) may be home by now if the Yankees don't tear up the tracks again, Melissa is at Goodwyn's (a Plantation in Dinwiddie County, site of the April 2 Fight for the Southside Railroad) mentions Sergeant Coats and also travel to "Jarretts" ( a Depot on the Petersburg Railroad) , names various ladies who have written him, hopes to be sent home soon and will bring "Mother's Negroes" when he comes. The letter is signed 'A". but was identified by a previous owner of his papers.
The letter came from a letter group identified to Armistead Christian who served 2 years w the 3rd Virginia Cavalry which at the time of writing was enorute to Ashland to meet Sheridan's Raiders- 10 days later the 3rd  fought at the Battle of Five Forks, then again at Farmville, Va. Comes w service info: Trooper Christian was paroled May 5, 1865. The 3rd Va Cavalry fought at Aldie, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, Front Royal,  Five Forks and many other battles. 
The 3pp 8 x 5" ink letter on brown lined rebel paper has age stains, edge cuts, page 3 corner clipped, not affecting the text and is Overall VG.
