Half leather bound with marbled paper boards. Blind debossed ornamentation on leather. Leather spine bears flat hubs with heavy gilt-tooled ornamentation with two labels in black with stamped gilt lettering. Illustrated with 121 lovely, full page, black and white engraving plates and several maps. Indexed. Many of the engravings are by Thomas Allom (1804– 1872) "who was an English architect, artist, and topographical illustrator. He was a founding member of what became the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He designed many buildings in London, including the Church of St Peter's and parts of the elegant Ladbroke Estate in Notting Hill. He also worked with Sir Charles Barry on numerous projects, most notably the Houses of Parliament, and is also known for his numerous topographical works, such as Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, published in 1838, and China Illustrated, published in 1845." (Wikipedia)  Edition is in "good/very good" condition with wear to the cover, spine, and edges. Paper boards show some rubbing. Corners are mildly bumped. Top binding is cracking. Pages have fairly evenly toned with discoloration, foxing and light chipping throughout. All volumes paginated, respectively. VOLUME 1: Frontispiece entitled "Hadgi or Mecca Pilgrims Encamped Near Antioch, on the Banks of the Orontes", engraved by H. Adlard. Unlegible ame written in ink on the frontispiece, as previously stated. 38 total engravings. 79 pp.; VOLUME 2: Frontispiece entitled "The Convent of St. Antonio, Near Eden, in Lebanon", engraved by W. H. Capone. 37 total engravings. 76 pp.; VOLUME 3: Frontispiece entitled "The Great Mosque at Antioch", engraved by H. Adlard. 46 total engravings. 100 pp. This is a very handsome, solid edition.
