Historical context: Obcanske Forum or in english Civic Forum was a Czechoslovak political party created during the Velvet revolution on 17th November 1989.
The main goal was the refusal of totalitarian communist regime.
The chairman of OF was Vaclav Klaus - future president of Czech republic.
Main leader was Vaclav Havel - future president of democratic Czechoslovak republic.
OF covered many liberal directions so one of the pillars of this political party was to offer a chance to candidate in the free votes for everyone who was not able to candidate during totalitarian communist regime between 1948-1989.
The logo of the Civic Forum was a blue letter O with painted blue eyes and a red smile and a red letter F.
The logo was created on 25th November 1989, based on an informal one-day speed competition between high schools and colleges announced by the Civic Forum.
The logo was chosen, the author of which was a first-year student of the University of Applied Art, majoring in writing and book culture, graphic artist Pavel Stastny, the aged 24.
It is said that the proposal was created a quarter of an hour before the competition deadline as one of the pranks that the students had fun with when they came to the conclusion that no serious, technical logo proposal could be processed by anyone.
Pavel Stastny then designed all the graphics for the Civic Forum, including the graphics for the draft constitution. Thanks to the success of this logo, he also became the author of logos for Datart, E-Gate, Seznam, Slovansky dum and Bananove Rybicky (Wiki).
