LETTERS OF
GENERAL C. G. GORDON
TO HIS SISTER
M. A. GORDON
MACMILLAN AND CO., LIMITED
1888
First edition.
A selection of letters from Charles Gordon to his sister during his long career. One of the first from Taku Forts in 1862 contains the classic line “I have had a slight attack of small-pox – it is not necessary to tell my mother”.
An interesting copy with several original newspaper cuttings relating to Gordon from the time of the reconquest of the Sudan (1896-99) pasted to the preliminary pages.
20 x 14 cm. xvi + 404 pp.
A good reference copy. Corners of the boards bumped. Cuttings pasted to the front endpaper and preliminary pages. A few minor marking to the text. Small chip to the rear free endpaper, rear hinge cracking but binding still sound.
