Guy's Britannic

No 18 Mechanical Pinwheel calculator

with case

c1940

This "Britannic" mechanical pinwheel calculator or adding machine was manufactured by "The Muldivo Calculating Machines Co. Ltd." of 49, Queen Victoria Street, London, E.C.4.

It has its' cover and it is in "as found" condition.

"Guy's Calculating Machines Ltd." were the only British manufacturer of the Odhner type pin-wheel calculator. The "Britannic" is a copy of the Brunsviga first produced during the first world war. It embodies improvements patented by Frank E. Guy, including a setting-lever clearer device for zeroing the levers by a single movement, interlocking mechanism, and a new barrel construction, giving greater rigidity to the setting levers.

I can't find any cracks or splits to the brass body of the machine, and it has retained much of its' original black painted finish, however, there are areas of paint loss to the edges, as well as, the usual scuffs, marks and scratches you would associate with the years of use.

The chromed metal fittings have lost some of their finish in places.

It has the model name and manufacturing details impressed into the body.

The numbers and lettering are legible and have a good colour.

All of the mechanisms appear to be working.

The machine is mounted on its original wooden base and has its' wooden cover.

This has its original key.
