As an educator, I saw a need for training substitute teachers a field that is barely touched. We expect teachers to be highly qualified, yet the educational system has done nothing to train those who will one day come in and fill in for an absent teacher. This resource was developed in 2011 after conduction a quantitative and qualitative study of what substitute teachers said they needed to be successful in the classroom. In these five chapters you will find my heart, my passion for why I took on this research project. Now, I am publishing my findings in an effort to help school districts take a better look at the substitute teachers from their perspective in hopes for a change in the way things are done. I have created a survey that is included in the book that districts may use to assess what the substitute teachers in their districts may have to say about what they need.
