This C60 commercial compact cassette was first introduced by Philips in 1965.

In 1963 Philips only supplied one C60 cassette with each Philips cassette recorder, which was designed for businesses and photographers for recording notes. Recordings could be made over and over. But the public started to use these machines for recording their favourite music. By 1965, the pressure to manufacture cassettes and sell these in retail outlets grew too great. And Philips created a design and name for their first commercial compact cassette, thus moving away from the term cartridge. After registering the patent, they began mass manufacture.

This design scheme of the C60 was the first to be sold in electrical retail shops. It was followed by the C90 in 1966, then by the C120 in 1967, all with the same design but in different distinctive colours.
