Vintage photo from Album collection of Sgt Edward B. Mitchell of Danville, VA. First with 191st Tank Battalion, then when it became the 745th Tank Battalion. He was with Company C, 2nd Platoon, one of the Original Cadre of the 745th Tank Battalion.
I've done some preliminary research on him.

Enlistment Place Danville Virginia, Enlistment Date 3 Feb 1941. Had high # of points and returned back from Germany in summer of 45 and discharged.

The 745th Tank Battalion was activated at Camp Bowie, Texas (near Brownwood) on 15 August 1942. Its initial cadre of officers and non-commissioned officers was drawn from the 191st Tank Battalion, from Fort Meade, Maryland drawn from National Guard Tank Company's from VA CN, MA & NY
The remaining personnel drawn from raw recruits from Camp Grant, IL. Next off to Louisiana Maneuvers in April 14 1943, back to Camp Bowie, and then north to NYC.
It embarked for Europe aboard the Queen Elizabeth at New York on 19 August 1943 and arrived at Greenock, Scotland on 25 August.[1][2] The battalion initially bivouacked near Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and began training for the amphibious assault that was sure to come. In December 1943, the battalion organized D Company, the battalion's light tank company.
