GERMANY - STADT CUXHAVEN NOTGELD NOTE - Scarce 1919 ISSUE - 50 Pfennig Banknote. The Banknote is crisp and clean - it grades UNCIRCULATED - A superb example.

Cuxhaven issue of a 50 Pfennig Emergency Banknote dated 1919.

Cuxhaven - Freistaat Thüringen (Thuringia ) - 50 Pfennig denomination.

The note is in Green Red Blue and Brown with Black text on the face and just Green and Brown to the reverse, all on White unwatermarked paper.

On one side of the note probably the face the main image at the centre shows an image of the Alte Liebe which is The  former pier in the harbour of Cuxhaven that now serves as a viewing platform. It is located on the riverside boundary of the harbour and the Lower Elbe river.  At the top corners in a Red shield is the Coat of Arms of Cuxhaven, between them is text as follows - Gutschein der Stadt Cuxhaven, meaning roughly 'Cuxhaven emergency money'. The denomination as '50 Pfennig.' is at each of the bottom corners of the note.

The other side of the note has the denomination as '50 Pfennig.' in very large sized type at each of the top corners of the note. At the top centre is an image of the Schloss Ritzebüttel, which is a late 14th century castle in Cuxhaven. (NB. It was the residence of the Hamburg magistrates during the time Ritzebüttel was part of Hamburg (from 1394 until 1864. The castle is one of the oldest preserved North German brick Gothic secular buildings in the region and is now a tourist attraction, open to visitors).

Below at the left and right is text with the date and place of issue as - Gültig bis 31.12.1921. Cuxhaven im Oktober 1919. Dieser Gutschein wird von unserer Stadtkasse eingelöst. All this means more or less - 'Valid until 21st December 1921. Cuxhaven, issued October 1919'. This banknote will be redeemed by our city treasury'.

At the bottom right is the signature of Max Bleichen on behalf of Der Magistrat or Local Council. Herr Bleichen served as Bürgermeister (Mayor) of Cuxhaven from 1907 - 1918 and from 1919 - 1931. (NB. For a few months in late 1918 and early 1919, because the November Revolution, following World War One, meant that in Germany much of local Government was in flux).

At the bottom left is the Serial Number in Black as No. 188754.

Size of the banknote - 86 x 60mm.

Crisp and clean, this old banknote has not seen any circulation - it is a superb example, so must grade Uncirculated, as issued.

I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS - PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM!

IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my new location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this.

Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore those buyers from RUSSIA, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, CHILE, MEXICO & SAUDI ARABIA who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item.

I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won.  If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:-

Please pay through the eBay payment system. In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or personal cheques drawn in £ on UK Banks - please message me if you want to pay this way.  I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER. Shipping/handling: UK and Europe: £2.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total,  (buyer’s risk, not recommended!) or £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Rest of World: £3.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total (buyer’s risk, not recommended) or £10.90 for registered mail (seller’s risk, necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Multiple wins/items are batched and sent at no extra cost, unless weight is significantly higher, above 20 grams.

NB. Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay, I will usually refund you through the eBay system, before I send your item or items.

A note about Feedback -

I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect 'five-star' scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So, before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay.

Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first!

PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I can get back, I may post from the UK again. Therefore, delivery may take as long as 2 weeks, this is not my fault, merely the result of the well known problems experienced within the International Postal System since March 2020.

Although happily now, most Postal Services are more or less back to normal again, though there still can be some problems with delays to certain countries and destinations.
