1960s Yonezawa Japan Tin Battery Operated Moon Detector Robot Space Vehicle Toy.

This blue lithographed tin battery-operated moon exploration space vehicle was made in Japan by Yonezawa in 1964.

A scarce space toy that is much harder to find than the white Moon Explorer M-27.

It has a cylindrical body with tracks, resembling a tin can on its side. The front and back have clear plastic domes covering the ends. Inside the forward control area is a grey plastic astronaut driver. The vehicle has two long arms or detectors at the front which have lighted tips.

In action the Moon Detector moves along the floor with its rubber tracks, the detectors at the front wiggle and snuffle whilst being lit up. There is a switch on the top with forward and backwards control, the rotating and illuminated engine produces a wonderful light show.

After testing the Moon Detector with batteries, most functions work as seen in the video but it is extremely temperamental due to the terminal connections on the battery door not always touching. Therefore, due to this reason, we are selling this item as NON-WORKING and for spares/repairs/display purposes only. Please only bid on this basis.

The overall condition of this space toy for its age is good but it does show signs of play wear and scratching. There is rusting around the battery compartment and within. The battery door although functioning has some rust patches. Both domes are crack free and in good condition. One of the detector lights works when it is moving. The white plastic antenna is missing from the top. Both original treads intact. Potential to be fully working but not in current condition so as previously mentioned, we are selling this item as NON-WORKING. PLEASE ONLY BID ON THIS BASIS.
