This lovely vintage sterling silver medallion measures 3/4" tall; 1" when including the bale.
The central oval has an embossed image of
Our Lady with the legend:
"O MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN
PRAY FOR US
WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE"
Tiny rays radiate from her hands, indicating the blessings she bestows upon those who ask for her intercession.
The surrounding Art Deco style frame is diamond-cut to enhance reflectivity.
The back side is engraved with a wreath of stars, a cross over an M, two hearts (one pierced) and CREED STERLING.
Lovely as a pendant; could also me attached to a charm bracelet.
NOTE: The "1830" under Our Lady's feet refers to the year that Catherine Labouré, a French nun, received several visitations from Mary, telling her to pursue a commission to design a medallion with the Virgin's likeness in it, and showing her in a vision what it should look like and what symbols should be included.
