Here is a terrific lot from a nice Pan American Exposition collection that I have on eBay right now!

This is a VERY RARE cover sent from San Francisco, California to Austria on June 26, 1901, about 11 weeks into the Pan American Exposition. As you can see, it was sent from well known San Francisco stamp dealer Wilhelm Sellschopp to Herr Edward Horak, a well known European philatelist of that era. The front has an incredible BC12 "blue, white, and red running buffalo" diamond-shaped cinderella stamp on it; this is a very scarce stapm, and locating one on a cover is EXTREMELY challenging! To the right of this gem are Scott's #'s 296, 297, and 298 Pan American Exposition U.S. commemorative bi-color stamps. Check out the four backstamps on the reverse; this is a terrific piece!

By the way, the stamp identifying number (BCx) used in this description is from the high quality book called Buffalo Cinderellas. This terrific publication, which won an American Philatelic Society gold medal award, contains the fascinating stories of the two men who are most associated with the awesome souvenir stamps issued for the 1901 Pan American Exposition. Two very different people did so by creating souvenir cinderella stamps for the event. One was a reputable man who sold over four million Expo stamps and became a respected philatelic expert; the other was a traveling charlatan who later drifted into the darkness of forgery and swindling.
