Description A handsome large very heavy English antique 18th Century Georgian (George II) solid sterling silver chamberstick by the silversmith William Grundy (1743 - 1776) in lovely condition and with full English silver hallmarks for London 1756. Excellent quality and a genuine 268 years old; a really nice big size resting on silver paw feet; it has a decorative fluted border with a scrolled silver handle and it is complete with its removable candle sconce and large snuffer. It weighs a substantial approx 452 grams and has a nice historic engraved inscription on the underside on the base. A very fine item.

Measurements Measures approx 7.45 inches (187mm) (including handle) x 6.05 inches (155mm) and is 4.9 inches (120mm) in height.

Date English antique 18th Century Georgian solid sterling silver with English silver hallmarks for London 1756, (date letter "A"). Lovely clear struck readable silver marks, including an early lion passant/gardant silver hallmark and the crowned leopards head. No duty stamp and made well before the silver duty act of 1784. The silversmiths initials are "WG" for William Grundy (active - 1743 - 1776). The snuffer is stamped with an early rubbed silver hallmark, the sconce appears unmarked but guaranteed antique silver. 
  
Condition Lovely condition with no splits or repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents, a superb genuine antique late 18th Century example. Beautiful quality and a handsome big size, the scrolled silver handle is undamaged and the silver candle sconce and snuffer are both intact, (little dents/bruises on the snuffer). A fine rare early-dated George II silver chamberstick and with an excellent heavy silver weight.
