I have this Canon IIb rangefinder camera for sale. The camera is in very good cosmetic condition and in working condition. However it is being sold for parts/repair because the shutter curtains need to be replaced. The curtains are cloth on the back and coated with a rubber compound on the front. The rubber coating has dried and cracked and will be sticky in warmer temperatures.

The shutter speeds are all working, including the 1 second. The viewfinder/ rangefinder is working. The black leatherette covering the camera is in nice condition, no cracking.

See the photos showing condition of shutter curtains. Although the camera is working I do not recommend using it as the shutter curtains are unlikely to be light tight.

Note: Previous owner had his name engraved into the top cover under “Canon” next to the flash shoe. (see photos)

Camera is complete with take-up spool, (no lens included), original Canon Case w/strap, and original Instruction Book. Being sold for parts/repair so no returns on this item.

Manufactured from 1/1949 Serial #21050 to 7/1952 Serial #42400. This one Serial #41090 was probably manufactured in 1952 close to the end of production.

The following is information from the Canon Museum:”The hallmark feature was the three-mode optical viewfinder. It had a positive and negative lens element in an optical block which rotated to change the viewfinder magnification. A lever could set one of three magnifications from 0.67x to 1.5x to match the focal length of the interchangeable lens. This feature received very high acclaim.

The lens mount was a universal, threaded flange compatible with Leica. Later in the production, a new diecast body was used to maintain precision and improve mass productivity."
