Birth, and rebirth. Survival. Good luck.

The lizard symbolizes these and other positive "energies". Whether you believe these or not, you'd probably feel drawn to this unique lizard brooch by French designer Dominique Aurientis.

This is an early Aurientis from the 1980s, and somewhat rare to come by these days. It showcases her sculptural design style, but is devoid of all simulated gemstones that adorn most of her later jewelry.

This lizard brooch is all about form and texture, and it has both qualities in spades.

At 3 3/4" long, it is as large as, and the shape of, some common lizards we've encountered. But then Aurientis takes it to another level by eschewing the realistic details for something that could be considered as abstract.

The lizard's slithery, curvy body has a pattern of swirls or coils all over, from its head to its tail. No visible eyes — or maybe, two of those coils are eyes! The swirls are all etched deeply on the body, which is shiny silvertone metal. Our lizard's webbed feet show the proper number of digits, five.

The brooch is about 1 3/4" wide. It has a locking c-clasp at the textured base. Marked Dominique Aurientis Paris within a round cartouche.

Our lizard pin is in very good to excellent condition. The silvertone is still bright and shiny, and with little visible wear.
