Hofner 173 made in the Hofner factory in Germany in the early to mid sixties. It is a very rare model especially to see in the UK as they were mainly made for Germany and not for export. The front is in white vinyl and the back is in black, both in faux snakeskin and both in a very good condition.
There are three ''diamond'' pickups - each with a diamond shape in which is the ''Hofner'' name. Each pickup has an on/off switch and they are marked ''bass'', ''discant'' and ''treble''. Each pickup has a tone control and there is an overall volume control. The bridge is a Hofner tune-o-matic model and the tailpiece is a Hofner tremolo model with tremolo arm still with its rubber tip.
The neck is in black and has a twenty-two fret fretboard with double dot fret markers and with side dot markers too. The headstock has the six on a side ''butterfly'' tuners and the raised Hofner logo. There is a very small hole near the logo and I can only assume that someone made that hole to hang the guitar with string on the wall.
The guitar is a rare one and is original and plays as it should.
