We surmise Akins and Thalberg worked together previously on some project and after writing her play, inscribed this copy and gifted it to Thalberg.  Sadly about a year later, Thalberg would succumb to pneumonia. 

A rare and fine association copy for Akins brilliant play which earned her a Pulitzer Prize; only the third to be awarded to a woman in Drama.
