This is an original press photo. Dr. John P. Hagen, Director of the United States satellite program, points to one of the solar batteries mounted on a United States six-inch satellite today at the Naval Research Laboratory. The sphere will be projected into space next month in the initial U.S. effort to put a satellite into an orbit around the earth. Discussing the new Russian sputnik, Dr. Hagen said he was looking "forward to a full exchange of date" on scientific findings by the Russians.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches.
