1957 Press Photo Dr. John Hagen points to solar batteries mounted to satellite.

This is an original press photo. Dr. John P. Hagen, Director of the United States satellite program, points to one of the solar batteries mounted on a United States six-inch satellite today at the Naval Research Laboratory. The sphere will be projected into space next month in the initial U.S. effort to put a satellite into an orbit around the earth. Discussing the new Russian sputnik, Dr. Hagen said he was looking "forward to a full exchange of date" on scientific findings by the Russians.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 11-03-1957.
