Description

How to become a two-Ferrari family? No problem...

The first one listed here is this very collectable 1:18 scale Bburago model of the Ferrari F50 Cabriolet in Rosso Corsa red. Only 349 F50s were made between 1995 and 1997. It was a mid-engined sports car with a V12 4.7l itre engine with a top speed of 202mph, clocking 0-100mph in just 8.5 seconds.

The overall size of the F50 model is about 24.5cm long and 11cm wide. It's in very good condition overall with only a light scuff just above the right hand side exhaust pipes, but it is very dusty and could do with a good vacuum and carwash. Unfortunately, you'll have to do that yourself because it does not come with a car valet specialist - something that most F50 owners probably have among their household staff.
The second, the 250GTO, 1:24 scale, has an even finer pedigree. Just 36 of these were made in the early 1960's, and there are claims that it is the world's most expensive car, and it has even been described as 'The Hottest Car of All Time'. It's certainly among the most valuable: GTOs hold positions 2, 3 and 4 in the top ten most expensive cars ever sold - the priciest of the three sold in 2018 for £52.3 million.

The bad news is it's not been very well looked-after, with the most notable issue being that all four wheels have broken off, and there are also a few chips and scratches to the paintwork -'playworn' would be the kindest way of describing it!

The good news is that all four wheels are included with the car, it's possible to buy replacements and re-use the tyres, and the paint can be sorted with a little pot of touch-up paint from a car parts shop - and all this is going to cost quite a bit less than restoring a real GTO. There are also a huge number of videos online showing you how you return the windows to something like their original transparency (Marty's Matchbox Make-Overs - you da man!)

Having been designed to a smaller scale than the F50, the GTO measures 19cm long and about 7.5cm wide. Yet, to our eyes it's the better model: just a slightly more accurate representation of the real car...or maybe it's just because the GTO is so utterly, ridiculously beautiful.

Bburago held a licence from Ferrari to make models of their marques, and have a reputation for high quality, detailed scale models. They very nearly disappeared through bankruptcy in 2006, but fortunately were bought up by the Chinese company Maisto, who now make these iconic models.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
