Colonel Peter Challinor threatens to wipe out thousands of residents on the Isle of Man using the most toxic nerve agent ever synthesized. The hunt is on to find him and stop him, but time is short and he has plenty of places to hide. Hugh Bottomley arrives from the Ministry of Defence in London to help out where he can. But Sparky knows Bottomley's past, and it is one that Bottomley would like kept secret. Meanwhile, house-to-house enquiries turn up more than a toxic nerve agent. The arrival of Rolien van der Laan from The Netherlands, and the enigmatic Oddball from London, does nothing to simplify an increasingly complex situation. Though Rolien is looking for tax relief and an old flame, Oddball has just, it seems, found a new love in his life. Though they end up in a hotel room together, it's not the sort of happy ending either of them envisaged. Devil's Helmet brings together back stories of power, love, duplicity, and suspense. It's sometimes frightening, often thought-provoking, and always fast action. Until you reach the end, you only know that it's bound to end in tears for somebody. The question is, who?
