This is a lovely Vintage, Silver Handled Letter Opener, in its priginal presentation case.

The handle is hollow cast, rather than filled, and is in the Classic Pattern, which is  Victorian Rococo Revival design first seen in the 1840s.

It is hallmarked with the assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter E for 1979, and the maker's mark for William Yates.

Excellent condition with just very light scratches, little sign of use. The handle and ferrule are nice and tight. The hallmarks are clear.

The letter opener is 19.4 cm long and weighs 25 g.
