Two works bound in one, both incomplete.

'A Closet for Ladies' is often attributed to Sir Hugh Plat, although this is not certain.
''Delight for Ladies' is by Sir Hugh Plat.
Both are often bound together.

This delightful little pocket sized volume, is bound in contemporary limp vellum, and measures approx 12.5cm x 7.5cm 2.5cm. As can be seen from the vellum is darked and worn with age, with the spine wrinkled and concave, with age and use. The leaves are naturally worn and thumbed, and sit delightfully, unevenly, throughout, see images closely. The original stitching is naturally straining throughout, but holding. The title page of the 'Closet' is is rather grubby, and is chipped, worn, torn and frayed, with loss thus the date is lacking the last number. The following leaf is in a similar condition to the lower fore edge. The leaves are toned, with scattered grubbiness, marks and smudges, with some slightly heavier browning to a few leaves. One leaf of the closet is chipped with loss. There is pale staining scattered throughout. Both books are lacking: Closet' is lacking 17 leaves in total. 'Delight' is lacking 3 leaves, see below for details. The fore edge wear to the last section of leaves to rear, resulting is loss of woodcut border. There are a few faint scattered early ink writings, and there is a faded 18thC ownership inscription to last leaf/blank.

'Closet' is lacking pages 47/8, and 143-174 (17 leaves in total)  'Delight' is lacking 3 leaves (D4, F4 and F9).

The text of both works presented in ornamental woodcut borders throughout.

The woodcut border of the 'Closet' matches both the 1611 and 1618 editions.

Sir Hugh Plat (1552-1611), Tudor/Jacobean, author, alchemist, inventor and general polymath.
