This work has been completely rebound in full modern mottled calf by George Bayntun, and measures approx 19.4cm x 15.2cm x 3cm. The binding is in excellent condition. A couple of initials appear to have been carved/pressed? to the fore edges (as seen when closed), see images. Internally, there are modern endpapers and blanks to the front and rear. The contents have browning/toning and foxing throughout, in varying degrees, heavier in places. The leaves are worn, nicked and frayed to corners and edges, in places throughout. There is some light creasing in places, and marginal staining scattered throughout. As can be seen from the images, the the verso of the title, and blank verso in prelims, and blanks to rear, have extensive ink annotations, ownership inscriptions, etc, and there entire contents are profusely annotated, in an early hand, with underlining's, markings, manicules, marks, blots and smudges. There are a number of scattered small corner or edge repairs, with more extensive repairs to the last few leaves of text to rear which, see images closely. Grubbiness and thumbing throughout. Text readable and complete.

Robert Bolton (1572-1631) was an English puritan clergyman and academic, noted as a preacher, and was described by some as the greatest classical scholar of his time due to his proficiency in Greek and Latin.

First edition, of this famous puritan tract, re-bound by Bayntun Riviere of Bath, with wonderful 18thC ownership notes, including female ownership.

  • We offer FREE UK domestic shipping, fully tracked and insured.
  • We use several services for overseas shipping, under 5kg usually shipped via Royal Mail Tracked. Heavier shipments or faster courier services are available, and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred method.

Packaging
All our books will be carefully and securely packaged in custom made book boxes (The majority of which are produced Carbon Neutral). We aim to send all items within 24-48 hours of payment.
