~  AUTHENTIC EARLY WESTERN STOCK CERTIFICATE  ~

1897 THE GENERAL CROOK SILVER MINING COMPANY

Incorporated Under the Laws of Dakota

Rare stock certificate. The company was likely named after General Crook, who with the U.S. Cavalry fought Indians in the Black Hills during the 1870s. Issued to John Wringrose, for 1,396 shares worth $10 each. Mr. Wringrose operated an early Deadwood grocery store. A nice little vignette shows and early ore mill in the "hills". Offices at Deadwood.
