Eleven 10" by 7 1/4" pale blue paper pages, each page with four bills of lading for merchandise sold by Carhart & Roff, (grocers and hardware merchants in Macon, Georgia) sent to depots via the Macon & Western Railroad. In 1854 the M&WRR ran northward from Macon to Atlanta, a total of 102 miles. These bills are addressed to businesses and individuals, to be delivered to the depots including Forsyth, Griffin, Newnan, Barnesville and more. Most of the merchandise being shipped was edible and included a barrel of fish, candy, coffee, sugar and a LOT of liquor. Considering their age, these are in very nice condition and were found loose in an old ledger.
