Function
A ballast is a crucial part of a fluorescent or HID lighting system. In a fluorescent lighting system, the ballast provides the voltage needed to start the lamp and regulates the electrical current of the light once it is lit. Without a ballast, the lamp would draw too much power, causing it to burn out quickly-sometimes even within a few minutes. The ballast prevents this from happening and ensures you get the benefits from the long service time of the lamp.
Description
The ballast can act as DC to AC converter so that you can use the normal DC power source in the car to light the bulbs efficiently. The most common problem of HID Ballast failure is flickering, or dipped beam not working, which may result from long-term use. When having problems, you'd better replace them to avoid inconvenience to your driving.
