Antique Kokoshnik 1908-1926 Sterling Silver Russian Engraved Hollow Egg 113.1g

This antique Kokoshnik period, hollow egg is a stunning piece of Russian artistry. Crafted between 1908 and 1926, this miniature item is made of sterling silver and features an intricate, engraved, acanthus pattern. The solidly made, silver egg is constructed in sterling silver and stamped with the Kokoshnik head facing right used from 1908 - 1926, the 84 Zolotnik mark and the letter O omicron mark for the city of Caucusus. This original piece is a perfect addition for any collectors of antique silver and Russian art.

The egg opens up to reveal a brushed texture interior, in contrast to the outside, stamped to both sections inside the egg. Despite the eggs age, it presents well, with just small dints, where the assay marks were struck. When pushed together the two section do close but it is not a very secure seal. Unfortunately, no markers mark can be seen anywhere on the egg. A modern day use of the egg, other than as a display item, is to use it as a pill box or novelty shot glass. The antique style and originating region of Russia make this piece a unique and valuable addition to any collection.
