1 volume edition/ complete in 1 volume. Original maroon cloth covers with blindstamped decoration on both covers. Rebacked in plain brighter maroon cloth, hinges good. The text is complete, foxing to the title page, a few foxing spots to the first and last few pages, toning to the pages. Original 19th century small booksellers label on the front endpaper (of Edward Howell, Liverpool), late 19th century owners stamp of W. Duarte on the front endpaper. Retains both terracotta coloured endpapers. Francis Seymour Larpent was deputy judge advocate general for the British forces in Iberia during the Peninsula War.

Brown grey cloth with blindstamped (without gilt) decoration all over both of the covers and spine. The covers are tidy and bright, wear around the spine edges, the inner front hinge is loosened but secure. The text is complete, tidy internally, light toning and marking, frontispiece with light browning and small fore-edge margin stain. Chapman and Hall publishers lists on the endpapers (including an interesting list of travel books on the rear endpaper and early advert for Dickens' Works). Frontispiece portrait of the author General William Napier with tissue guard. Pages; (2), VII, (1), 349, (3).
