On auction, we have an antique cast iron mechanical bank by J. & E. Stevens, designed by John Hall and patented in 1869. "Halls Excelsior Bank" has raised letters on the front, decorative open-work sides and a cupola on its red roof. The cupola opens with a wooden monkey inside that turns his head. The paint appears to be original. This measures 5 1/2" tall, 4" wide and 4" deep. Sturdy, it weighs 1 pound 8.2 ounces.
I believe this bank is in very good condition. There is wear on the paint. The monkey is missing his arms. Also, there is no chain in front by the door that would open the cupola. I see no cracks or other flaws. Someone has already deposited a coin inside for you. As I am not an expert, please see my photographs for more description.
These belongs to my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with many of his treasures. Now, he is selling his antique cast iron toys and banks.
I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping when possible.
