so collectors will want to avoid coins struck with signs of erosion and distortion. Very minor doubled
dies are known, one each for obverse and reverse, but these are of little general interest. Far more
interesting is the obverse die displaying what seem to be sun rays projecting northwesterly from
Liberty's arm and shoulder. These appear to be a series of stress cracks in the die, but the resulting
pattern is quite intriguing. The 1945(P) half dollar is one of many dates/mints in this series found
with the designer's monogrammed "AW" partially or completely lacking.

circulated condition is worth between $13.25 and $32.50. However, on the open market 1945
Half Dollars in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $4100.
