Selling here is Edward Wells' 'A Commentary Upon the Old Testament....', published in Oxford in 1734.

A reissue of Well's separately published works 'An help for the more easy and clear understanding of the Holy Scriptures....', printed in Oxford, 1724-1729. Each volume with a general titlepage dated 1734, retaining the original titlepages. A substantial and rare set in four volumes.

4to, bound in worn period gilt ruled full calf, upper board detached from volume two and both boards detached from volume five, spines with five raised bands, compartments gilt decorated and numbered, labels lacking, all page edges speckled red and black. Period plain endpapers.

The book measures 19.5cm by 23cm.

Condition: Calf dry and abraded with loss to spine ends and labels lacking, hinges cracked to those joints not split as detailed above, corners bumped. Textblocks themselves are firm, contents in good crisp condition as seen, generally clean with some light toning and foxing, the latter heavier through a few quires, occasional small water stains to perimeter. 2 later ink ownerships to front fly leaf vol 4.
