Privately purchased from well known Militaria dealer

Unique SI 66 M16 helmet, captured by a US soldier from the 47th Infantry Regiment, Co.C, 4th Division.
The soldier tells us about his military training in the US on the front of the helmet and his arrival in France.
On the side of the helmet he tells about his battefield experiences and the battles he was involded.
He very nearly escaped death during German an Artillery shelling.

Exterior
Original apple green paint on which 5 large tan ochre circles are painted. Two of these circles contain the
personal diary of the US soldier who captured this helmet. I noticed faint letters on other places as well, so further research might reveal yet more information.

The liner pins have been replaced by metal wire. Probably by the US soldier in order to hang it somewhere.
Or maybe by the German soldier in order to camouflage the helmet with foliage (?).

Interior
Original M16 leather liner band, 1 leather pad remaining, hanging loosely on the liner, loose cushion belonging with the pad.
Maker mark: SI (= Eisenhutte Silesia)
Size: 66

Writing on the helmet
Large personal war diary by the soldier who captured this helmet.
Probably more text to discover!
