Scabbard: Yes, the original US WW2 Western L-77 "Commando" Brown Leather Scabbard with the classic Western two rows of side stitching, large darkened metal rivets down the sides, and fully functional darkened metal "glove" snap closure leather handle retention strap.

Markings: On the ricasso, "WESTERN / BOULDER. COLO. / PAT NO 1,967479''.

Original/Replica: Original 

Condition: This knife is in Very Good Condition. Blade has a crisp, lustrous blue finish. The blade is straight and sharp, with some light micro chips on the edge. The blade tip is present, as well as the top false edge. The guard, spacers, handle, and pommel are all tight, solid, and firmly set. The sheath shows some light wrinkling to the end tip, some light scratching to the front body, and some light darkening to the front belt hanger. Please see our photos for more information.

Historical Background: Such was the need for fighting knives during WW2 that the US government purchased almost the entire production of most American cutlery companies. The famous Western Cutlery Co. of Boulder, Colorado produced a sleek 7" blade fighting knife known as the L-77 "Commando" that was widely carried by US troops overseas. It was especially favored by US Marine Corps Raiders. We have shown a photo of a Marine Raider in training during WW2 with a similar Western L-77 clenched in his teeth.
