Rare Art Deco Miniature Royal Doulton Sung Flambé Vase w Gilded Dragon Tribute
This terrific miniature vase is estimated to
have been made during the art deco era of the 1920s through 1930s. It has a
white printed understamp that reads “Royal Doulton Flambé” for its successful
English china manufacturer. It is a piece from the “Sung Ware” era developed by
Charles Noke first seen in 1919.
It has a squat almost
spherical shape with a short-flared neck and rippled top edge. The glaze is
predominantly the familiar deep red flambé colour with an upper area of sandy
tone drip glaze. The leading face is hand gilded with a detailed fierce some
looking mythical Chinese dragon.
