Commemorated the bicentennial anniversary of Fort Duquesne (Fort Pitt) at the present site of Pittsburg site of many historical battles.  The stamp depicts a composite drawing using figures from an etching by T.B. Smith and a painting portraying the British occupation on the site as the Fort Duquesne blockhouse burns in the background.  Colonel George Washington is depicted on horseback in the center, while General Forbes, who was  debilitated by intestinal disease, is on a stretcher.  Also depicted is Colonel Henry Bouquet, 2nd in command and other figures who represent the Virginia militia and provincial army.
