A rare two volume set of Samuel Johnson's Letters. First edition of Hester Piozzi's significant selection of Dr. Johnson's erudite and entertaining letters the first publication and canonization of a large body of his correspondence. Bound in uniform calf, gilt lettered to spine. A well loved copy, annotated by the previous owners and with newspaper clippings pasted in.

Condition:
The binding worn with loss to leather at edges and spine/corners. Boards scuffed and in need of a polish.
Internally, usual toning, spotting in parts (heavier in places), some dust-soiling to gutters and with some grubby marking. A number of leaves have been repaired (including title) and/or strengthened. As mentioned above, a well loved copy with many ink annotations to endpapers. A good example overall of a scarce work.
