I Flew For The Fuhrer - Diary of a German Fighter Pilot, Paperback, Heinz Knoke

Those who fought against the Luftwaffe and all students of Germany's role in the last war will find this book an absorbing and revealing document. This is the diary of a German fighter ace, from his call-up to the collapse of the Reich. Heinz Knoke flew first over England before being transferred to the Eastern Front. He fought the last part of the war in the Western war zone against great British and American bomber armadas. A brave and skilful fighter, he sometimes took old and unserviceable aircraft up in an attempt to stem the Allied invasion. He logged over 2000 flights and had shot down fifty-two Allied aircraft before he was crippled in an almost suicidal 'last stand' battle in the air.
