- All original 1829 wooden basket with kurbits or rosmaling decoration. Handle is signed 1829 with three initials.
- I think this was sold to me as Norwegian, but the paint details look more Swedish to me -- check the kurbits as in decorative elements from Dalarna. From my personal collection. Purchased in central PA from long term antique dealer probably 30-40 years ago.
- With a date of 1829 and initials on the handle, this basket is absolutely right and just about 200 years old. The paint has remained vivid and strong even after two centuries. Some of the photos are a bit dark -- first three are in natural daylight.
- It stands just about 15" high and is 13" square at the top. The basket itself minus the handle is 7" high.
- If I recall, antique Swedish painted items can no longer be sold for export, so this is indeed a singular opportunity to own a rare and unique piece of Scandinavian hand crafted piece of folk art.
- It is missing one wide cross piece at the bottom, an easy task to restore. See photos. Some age related nibbles on the inside bottom slats/pieces but nothing to report on the outside.
- See for yourself!
