11 1/2 by 9 inches.  xii, 264 pages including index, plus 50 b&w plates. Hardback bound in the publishers original green cloth with gilt lettering to the spine.  No dust jacket. The cloth is slightly soiled and marked, faded at the spine, rubbed at the edges and bumped at the board corners. The front free endpaper has a gift inscription, a small tear to the bottom edge, a diagonal crease at the bottom corner, and some small nicks to the foredge.  There is a tiny tear to the top of the guttering between the rear of the front free endpaper and the half title page.
