Item Condition

So you know what to expect

The item is in fine condition with little wear and tear. There may be some very obscure marks and small spots in places if you look closely and thoroughly enough.

There may also be some stitching that is sticking out slightly that is not immediately visible. There is no major or easily visible wear and tear and the rank slides are in fine condition.

Item Date

Timeline origin

Most likely WWII. I could be wrong by a few years but I am fairly confident in my estimate.

Definitely pre-1952 due to the crown being a Tudor crown (king's crown) as opposed to St. Edward's crown (the crown of the late Queen Elizabeth II).

Historical and Contextual Information

For your own interest

Rank slides are a form of rank insignia used in the British Army to denote the rank of an officer. This particular rank slide shows the rank of major.

Majors command a company of infantry, a squadron (a smaller unit that is part of a regiment of cavalry, engineers or armour) or a battery of artillery.

This particular pair was most likely used in WWII. Its tanned khaki colour implies it was used in the deserts of Africa or perhaps during the Italy campaign.
