Basic Information

The basics

A green fabric hat for a member of the Royal Military Police of Britain. Comes with a metal badge (perhaps silver but could be some other metal) for the Royal Military Police, a leather strap (which I think could be authentic but I could be wrong and it might be leatherette or mimicked leather) and two anodized aluminium buttons.

Item Condition

So you know what to expect

The exterior of the hat is in decent condition. There are some small spots or holes in places that are difficult to see from a distance or at first glance.

There is also a relatively small spot near the rear on the top which I think is some old glue in a small amount. I did not want to attempt to remove it in case I damage the hat. None of this wear and tear is overly major and relatively limited.

The interior has a bit more wear and tear, with the base seeming stiff and creased. It has also lost colour and become a little worn in places. Along the leather (or possibly mimicked leather) rim, there are some smaller markings.

Some small rips and tears may be found in the fabric part of the rim liner as well as some signs of visible staining that has since dried. Once again, I did not want to risk cleaning this and accidently damaging the hat.

The cap badge and buttons are in superb condition with little obvious wear and tear. If wear and tear is present, it will be obscure.

Otherwise, the hat is in decent condition, with the more significant wear and tear on the inside and the exterior wear and tear being small and mostly obscure.

Historical and Contextual Information

For your own interest

A British Army hat for the Royal Military Police in green fabric / khaki from around the 50s / 60s time period. The Royal Military Police are responsible for policing the military in the UK and beyond as well as providing a RMP presence.

They have been involved in WWI, WWII and the majority of campaigns involving the British Army both old and modern, policing the military, handling P.O.Ws, returning lost soldiers to their unit and launching special investigations.

The RMP itself has roots dating to 1855 as the Mounted Military Police which gave order to at and in the proximity of a camp in Aldershot. However, similar units have existed since the 1660s.

In 1992, the RMP became a part of the Provost Branch within the Adjutant General's Corps, although it still retains its identity.
