Selling here is William Pain's 'The Builder's Golden Rule....', printed in London, 1781. A complete copy, though in need of rebinding, with all one hundred and four engraved plates present as called for.
8vo, bound in worn period half calf over marbled paper covered boards, both boards detached and textblock split into four parts, spine with six raised bands. Period plain endpapers, upper fe removed, early pencil inscriptions to both pastedowns and titlepage.
The book measures 13.5cm by 21.5cm.
The contents are complete, meeting collation: iii, [3], 18, [2], 58pp, with all one hundred and four engraved plates present as called for.

Condition: Binding defective as described above, front board detached, block split into four sections with spine degraded, much wear and scuffing externally as seen. Title leaf detached, dust soiled and with some creases and perforations down inner edge, the block as a whole with corners a bit rounded and bumped, leaves generally in good crisp condition, somewhat browned and with some general dust soiling and handling marks, heavier at points, notable smudges to and opposite plates 90 & 98, intermittently elsewhere to a lesser extent (including text leaves) pp56-8 very grubby as are the intitial few plates. Some scattered ink splats and smudges, half title with a few closed tears and nicks at foot. Lower fly leaves with various old pencil annotations and drawings, an owners name to the front pastedown.
