*History of LANCE*

Other than the big three (Sailor, Pilot, and Platinum) many Japanese fountain pen manufacturers existed before in 1930's and possessed as much history and tradition as the famous Japanese stationery company today.

One of them is a company called "Lance" . The company was one of the earliest fountain pen manufacturers that existed in Germany before the World War making fountain pens with ebonite, celluloid, and resin. Lance also made a scene in Japan as one of the small fountain pen companies that exist world war. Lance is one of the many small; enterprises that rises before the world war which mainly sells fountain pen directly to wholesalers, retailers, and visitors.. Unable to survive after the world war,  Most of the remaining HHH old stock remains in the depository.

After more than 84 years, We were able to acquire some of the remaining New Old Stock that was available in the depository to introduce their legacy to the whole world.

This pen carries the history, legacy of Lance Fountain Pen Company  more than 100 years.

This pen is truly a piece of fountain pen history that was once forgotten and now retold to you.

*Semi-Flex Nib*

Japanese Vintage Fountain pen uses a lot of Semi-Flex nib configurations. This is because, Semi-flex nibs allow writers to write broader strokes in and between each stoke by pressing on the nib, giving the writer the flexibility to write calligraphy. It is very crucial that semi-flex nib is included in the fountain open back in the 1930s. It is because Japanese writers use a semi-flex ability to write kanjis and other characters that require broader strokes between the fine strokes. A small enterprise such as Lance employs their own nib that was made by either nib maker

*CELLULOID FOUNTAIN PENS: HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE *

The history of celluloid usage in fountain pens in Japan traces back to the early 20th century. Celluloid, a synthetic material derived from cellulose nitrate, gained popularity due to its unique properties and versatility.

During that time, fountain pen makers in Japan were in search of an alternative material to replace hard rubber, which was commonly used for pen barrels and caps. Celluloid emerged as a favorable choice due to its advantages over rubber. It offered greater flexibility, enabling pen manufacturers to produce pens with intricate designs and shapes. Additionally, celluloid was lightweight, durable, and resistant to cracking or shattering, making it an ideal material for daily use.

SPECIAL ENGEIKA: KEYCHAIN TOP CAP SEAL

Restoring a fountain pen can be quite challenging, primarily due to the scarcity of available parts. This particular pen arrived without a clip, nib, or filling system, a common occurrence since most discontinued factories often opted to sell their remaining stock as raw materials rather than fully assembled pens. When our team acquired this pen, we began the restoration process by utilizing vintage pre-war clips, vintage Japanese rubber sacs for the filler system, and vintage Japanese nibs. To add an extra touch of uniqueness to this pen, we introduced a small twist: a keychain hole in the top cap, allowing you to attach it to your keys and more.

*How to Use*

The sac bulb system has a mechanism that helps you to intake a huge amount of ink in the barrel by squeezing the bulb that is attached to the grip section.  This mechanism creates an airtight atmosphere to ensure the leaking out of ink and also constant ink flow to the feeder.

To use the pen

  1. Unscrew the body from the grip section
  2. Insert the nib into an ink well
  3. Squeeze the bulb and the pen should be ready

*Condition*

The pen is in a good condition. S Tier! Because it was received as a raw material from the nishio factory, we reassembled the pen in-house using vintage fountain pen parts from the nib, to the clip & filling system has been replaced with new vintage fountain pen parts . One unique feature of this pen is the key chain hole top cap that you can use to attach this pen to your key chain and more

The whole pen is made out of  celluloid body construction and the trim is slightly off-color because of age but the rest of the pen is in incredible condition

The pen was inked prior to taking the picture for nib and filler system testing. And because the grip originally was clear transparent because of the black ink, it becomes black., But can be cleaned again

the rubber sac uses the original rubber sac from the 1930s hence the appearance does not look new.

Please treat the pen with the utmost care, if you do not know what you are doing, please refrain from opening hinges or things that might appear untightened, due to the age of this pen and hard contact or excessive force exerted on the pen damage the pen

S Tier - Almost like Brand New: This pen is in exceptional condition, almost as if it were brand new. There are no signs of rust on the clip, and the original filling system is still intact and does not require replacement. The cap and piston filler, if applicable, screw on and off smoothly without any difficulties. The nib color is vivid with limited to no scratches. Any hairline scratches are barely visible, and there are no cracks on the pen. The pen feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

A Tier - Excellent Condition: This pen is in excellent condition with only minor flaws. There may be small chips on the nib, but no rust is present. Hairline scratches may be visible on the body, cap, and nib. The nib color remains consistent, although small scratches may be seen upon close inspection. The pen can be easily screwed on and off, and the filling system works properly. The original filling system is intact with no cracks on the body of the pen. The pen still feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

B Tier - Good Condition: This pen is in good condition and is perfectly usable. It may have some rust on the clip and trim. The nib color may have changed due to weathering or ink stains. The filling system has been replaced with a new one, possibly because the original one had hardened over time and needed replacement. There are no cracks on the pen, but there may be hairline scratches present.

C Tier - Fair Condition: This pen is in fair condition and is functional, but it has noticeable scratches on the body and cap. The trim may be rusted or chipped. Although there are no cracks, the filling system also requires replacement. The nib color may have changed, or the nib itself may have been re-polished.

F Tier - Poor Condition: This pen is still writable, but it is cosmetically in a terrible state. A major refurbishment has been conducted to restore the pen to an acceptable condition, but in the process, many of its original characteristics have been lost.

Please note that this item condition grade is based on general standards and may vary depending on the specific criteria and expectations of different collectors or sellers.
