To understand this SUPER SESSION, you must understand that Mike Bloomfield was the premiere guitarist in the United States in the late sixties.

When Eric Clapton and Cream came to the United States, the only person who really impressed them was Mike Bloomfield (who was playing lead guitar for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Al Kooper, who created The Blues Project and established Blood, Sweat & Tears with their debut album,CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN, and also was the main contributer to Bob Dylan’s classic album, BLONDE ON BLONDE and was one of the best producers in the business.

Steven Stills was in between playing with The Buffalo Sprinfield and was just in the evolution of starting Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. SUPER SESSION has Mike Bloomfield ripping on his Gibson guitar laying down some of the most instrumentals you have ever heard with Al Kooper. On the second side with Al Kooper, Steven Stills does an eleven-minute rendition of “Season Of The Witch” which will blow you away.

As the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) had done a year earlier, Super Session (1968) initially ushered in several new phases in rock & roll's concurrent transformation. In the space of mere months, the soundscape of rock shifted radically from two- and three-minute danceable pop songs to comparatively longer works with more attention to technical and musical subtleties. Enter the unlikely all-star triumvirate of Al Kooper (piano/organ/ondioline/vocals/guitars), Mike Bloomfield (guitar), and Stephen Stills (guitar) — all of whom were concurrently "on hiatus" from their most recent engagements. Kooper had just split after masterminding the definitive and groundbreaking Child Is Father of the Man (1968) version of Blood, Sweat & Tears. Bloomfield was fresh from a brief stint with the likewise brass-driven Electric Flag, while Stills was late of Buffalo Springfield and still a few weeks away from a more or less full-time commitment to David Crosby and Graham Nash. Although the trio never actually performed together, the long-player was notable for idiosyncratically featuring one side led by the team of Kooper/Bloomfield and the other by Kooper/Stills. The band is ably fleshed out with the powerful rhythm section of Harvey Brooks (bass) and Eddie Hoh (drums) as well as Barry Goldberg (electric piano) on "Albert's Shuffle" and "Stop." The heavy Chicago blues contingency of Bloomfield, Brooks, and Goldberg provide a perfect outlet for the three Kooper/Bloomfield originals — the first of which commences the project with the languid and groovy "Albert's Shuffle." The guitarist's thin tone cascades with empathetic fluidity over the propelling rhythms. Kooper's frisky organ solo alternately bops and scats along as he nudges the melody forward. The same can be said of the funky interpretation of "Stop," which had originally been a minor R&B hit for Howard Tate. Curtis Mayfield's "Man's Temptation" is given a brass-fuelled soulful reading that might have worked equally well as a Blood, Sweat & Tears cover. At over nine minutes in spin time, "His Holy Modal Majesty" is a fun trippy waltz and includes one of the most extended jams on the Kooper/Bloomfield side. The track also features the distinct hurdy-gurdy and Eastern-influenced sound of Kooper's small electric keyboard-manipulated ondioline, which has a slightly atonal and reedy timbre much like that of John Coltrane's tenor sax. Because of some physical health issues, Bloomfield was unable to complete the recording sessions and Kooper contacted Stills. Immediately his decidedly West Coast sound — which alternated from a chiming Rickenbacker intonation to a faux pedal steel — can be heard on the upbeat version of Bob Dylan's "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry." One of the album's highlights is the churning and scintillating cover of "Season of the Witch." There is an undeniable synergy between Kooper and Stills, whose energies seems to aurally drive the other into providing some inspired interaction. Updating the blues standard "You Don't Love Me" allows Stills to sport some heavily amplified and distorted licks, which come off sounding like Jimi Hendrix. This is one of those albums that seems to get better with age and that gets the full reissue treatment every time a new audio format comes out. This is a super session indeed.

Crosby, Stills & Nash Daylight Again 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP  Cut From The Original Analog Masters by Chris Bellman!

As members of one of rock’s first supergroups, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash helped define the Woodstock generation through their peerless harmonies, resonant songwriting and deep commitment to political and social causes.

Daylight Again is a 1982 studio album by the band Crosby, Stills & Nash, their fourth of completely original material, and seventh in total. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, the final time the band has made the top ten to date. Three singles were released from the album, all making the Billboard Hot 100: "Wasted on the Way" peaked at #9, "Southern Cross" at #18, and "Too Much Love to Hide" at #69.

The genesis of the album lies in recordings made by Stephen Stills and Graham Nash at intervals in 1980 and 1981, the album slated to be a Stills-Nash project. They employed Art Garfunkel, Timothy B. Schmit, and others to sing in place of where David Crosby might have been.

Executives at Atlantic Records, however, had little interest in anything but CSN product from any member of the group, and held out for the presence of Crosby, forcing Nash and Stills to start paying for the sessions out-of-pocket. They began to turn toward the company's point of view, however, and decided to invite Crosby to participate at the eleventh hour. He brought two of his own tracks to the album, "Delta," where Stephen and Graham squeezed their vocals into David's already-taped multi-tracked harmonies, and "Might As Well Have A Good Time," which received the bona fide CSN treatment. Most of the recording, however, features other voices in addition to the main trio, a first for any CSNY record, as is the number of outside writers. The song "Daylight Again" evolved out of Stills' guitar-picking to accompany on-stage stories regarding the south in the Civil War, segueing into "Find the Cost of Freedom," which had been the b-side of the "Ohio" single in 1970.

As the first album by the band in the video age, music videos were filmed to accompany the two lead singles, "Southern Cross," featuring the band and shots of one of their favorite metaphors, a sailing vessel, receiving a fair amount of rotation on MTV in 1982 and 1983.

NOW WE HAVE THESE INDIVIDUAL SOLO WORKS OF CSN

Steven Stills/Manassas DOUBLE 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE LIMITED EDITION LP SET   - After stops in The Buffalo Springfield, CSN(&Y) and a few solo albums for the Atlantic label, Stills recruited musical kindred-spirits including the likes of Chris Hillman (The Byrds) to form Manassas. The resulting debut, a 2-LP set from 1972, has been a perennial favorite since its' release. It's a big bubbling cauldron of country-rock-blue(s)-grass with blue eyed soul mixings plus Stills' penchant for Latin riffs (Suite: Judy Blue Eyes) thrown in for flavor. This collection not only showcases Stills' trademark voice and song writing, but finally lets his fiery guitar playing blaze through.

A sprawling masterpiece, akin to the Beatles' White Album, the Stones' Exile on Main St., or Wilco's Being There in its makeup, if not its sound. Rock, folk, blues, country, Latin, and bluegrass have all been styles touched on in Stephen Stills' career, and the skilled, energetic musicians he had gathered in Manassas played them all on this album. What could have been a disorganized mess in other hands, though, here all gelled together and formed a cohesive musical statement. The songs are thematically grouped: part one (side one on the original vinyl release) is titled "The Raven," and is a composite of rock and Latin sounds that the group would often perform in full live. "The Wilderness" mainly centers on country and bluegrass (Chris Hillman's and Al Perkins' talents coming to the forefront), with the track "So Begins the Task" later covered by Stills' old flame Judy Collins. Part three, "Consider" is largely folk and folk-rock. "Johnny's Garden," reportedly for the caretaker at Stills' English manor house and not for John Lennon as is often thought, is a particular highlight. Two other notables from the "Consider" section are "It Doesn't Matter" (later redone with different lyrics by the song's uncredited co-writer Rick Roberts on the first Firefall album) and "Move Around," which features some of the first synthesizer used in a rock context. The closing section, titled "Rock & Roll Is Here to Stay," is a rock and blues set with one of the landmarks of Manassas' short life, the epic "The Treasure." A sort of Zen-like meditation on love and "oneness," enlivened by the band's most inspired recorded playing it evolves into a bluesy groove washed in Stills' fierce electric slide playing. The delineation lines of the four themed song groupings aren't cut in stone, though, and one of the strengths of the album is that there is a lot of overlap in styles throughout. Unfortunately, the album has been somewhat overlooked over the years, even though Stills considers it some of the best work he has done. Bill Wyman (who guested on "The Love Gangster") has said he would have quit the Rolling Stones to join Manassas

MANASSAS PIECES -After recording his second solo album, Stephen Stills formed Manassas in 1971 with a talented group of musicians that included Chris Hillman, a former member of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. Manassas released two albums, 1972’s eponymous double-album debut and the 1973 follow-up, Down The Road. The Manassas album "Pieces" features alternate versions of two songs from Down The Road: "Do You Remember The Americans" and "Lies" (featuring guitarist Joe Walsh). The collection also includes the legendary group's unreleased performances of "Sugar Babe" and "Word Game," a pair of songs Stills recorded in 1971 for his second solo album. The remaining tracks include "Like A Fox," a song recorded with blues guitarist Bonnie Raitt on background vocals and the Latin-tinged "Tan Sola Y Triste" (Spanish for 'So Alone and Sad').

DAVID CROSBY - IF YOU COULD REMEMBER MY NAME 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION AUDIOPHILE GATEFOLD  LP

David Crosby's debut solo album If I Could Only Remember My Name is a one-shot wonder of dreamy but ominous California ambience. The songs range from brief snapshots of inspiration (the angelic chorale-vocal showcase on "Orleans" and the a cappella closer, "I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here") to the full-blown, rambling Western epic "Cowboy Movie", and there are absolutely no false notes struck or missteps taken. No one before or since has gotten as much mileage out of a wordless vocal as Crosby does on "Tamalpais High (At About 3)" and "Song With No Words (Tree With No Leaves)", and because the music is so relaxed, each song turns into its own panoramic vista. Those who don't go for trippy Aquarian sentiment, however, may be slightly put off by the obscure, cosmic storytelling of the gorgeous "Laughing" or the ambiguous (but pointed) social questioning of "What Are Their Names", but in actuality it is an incredibly focused album. Even when a song as pretty as "Traction in the Rain" shimmers with its picked guitars and autoharp, the album is coated in a distinct, persistent menace that is impossible to shake. It is a shame that Crosby would continue to descend throughout the remainder of the decade and the beginning of the next into aimless drug addiction, and that he would not issue another solo album until 18 years later. As it is, If Only I Could Only Remember My Name is a shambolic masterpiece, meandering but transcendently so, full of frayed threads. Not only is it among the finest splinter albums out of the CSNY diaspora, it is one of the defining moments of hung-over spirituality from the era.

New Album Featuring "Don't Want Lies" & "Search & Destroy"!

"A diesel-fueled jam!"
 - Rolling Stone

From a chance meeting at a Super Bowl jam session, Stephen Stills invited Kenny Wayne Shepherd to join him for an homage to his legendary "Super Session" Album. Musically, it was close to love at first sight, or perhaps first riff! What started as a fun idea turned into a year-long project, with songwriting wood shedding and of course, explosive guitar playing by two of the all time greats with production by Talking Heads alumna Jerry Harrison.

Stephen has not sounded so good since his CSN&Y glory days with "Don't Want Lies" and "Only Teardrops Fall". He also contributes "Word Game" - a vintage Buffalo Springfield politico anthem. Kenny Wayne who entered the scene as a great white hope of the blues at age 15, almost 20 years go, has matured into the best player of his generation. He even sings and sounds fantastic. Check out the guitar interplay on "Honey Bee" (with Barry Goldberg's fabulous piano) on "Talk To Me Baby" and Neil Young's classic "Rockin' In the Free World". With Stills, Shepherd and Goldberg joining forces to create the supergroup The Rides, the sky's the limit!

Stephen Stills & Judy Collins Everybody Knows LIMITED EDITION GATEFOLD JACKET LP-

Vinyl LP!

Two Of America's Most Loved Music Legends... Together At Last!

Judy Collins and Stephen Stills together at last! Two folk legends of Laurel Canyon's countercultural music scene join forces on this gorgeous album of all new recordings. Features captivating versions of classic tunes by fellow folk icons Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen plus a few of their own compositions. It was easy for Judy Collins to put a little something extra into her performance of Leonard Cohen's song "Everybody Knows" on the album. After all, it was Judy's encouragement and her recordings of Cohen songs like "Suzanne" and "Bird on a Wire" that helped get Cohen's career off the ground in the '60s. It was also in the '60s that Collins first met Stephen Stills (remember "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"?) and first collaborated with him on a cover of the Sandy Denny classic "Who Knows Where The Time Goes", a song which is revisited here. Also here is "Judy," a duet version of a late-'60s Stills demo. Judy and Stephen's harmonies are just heavenly all across this recording, which also features a new spin on CSNY's "Carry On" and the new Collins composition "River of Gold".
