SPAIN-PERU WAR. 1873 (May) blue printed bill of lading for voyage from Havre France to Callao, stamped with France Control Stamp for Connaissements 2fr (Forbin #3, bills of lading made in set of four, control stamps affixed to the copies) cancelled by Company h.s., much interesting detail incl. ms. notations and three h.s.'s in French, one "In case of blockade the merchandise will be debarked at the costs and risks of the addressees, in the closest free port accessible to the ship, where the voyage will be terminated and the freight acquired," this disclaimer occasioned by the Spanish blockade of Peruvian and allied ports during the Spain-Peru War, hostilities had ended in 1866 but truce not declared until 1871 and peace not declared until 1879, rare relic of this little known war, F-VF.
