Offered here is a 2 page story and full page engraving of a sea creature called a "Sea Pen". This is from the Gentleman's Magazine Aug 1764. Sea pens are colonial marine cnidarians belonging to the order Pennatulacea. There are 16 families within the order; they are thought to have a cosmopolitan distribution in tropical and temperate waters worldwide. Sea pens are grouped with the octocorals ("soft corals"), together with sea whips and gorgonians ( From wikipedia - whatever all this means). 5" x 8" on old rag stock paper. This is original. Still in pretty good shape for 247 years old!!!!! |
