Includes:
Scrambling, the process of rendering sound, pictures and data
unintelligible, forms part of the Conditional Access system used by
content providers to prevent unauthorised reception of signals. The
Transport Stream Descramblers are used in head ends to clear an
incoming scrambled MPEG-2 signal from various media, before redistribution
and in most cases re-scrambling. Descrambling is not
only a cost-effective alternative to decoding and re-encoding, but
also causes no signal degradation.
